Our Story
Our story began back in 1996 when our CEO Rob sustained a high-level spinal cord injury. After rehabilitation, Rob was keen to build up his upper body strength to maximise his independence. However, his reduced hand function made it nearly impossible to hold on to gym equipment. Frustrated, he set to work designed a gripping aid that would gently but firmly pull his fingers around a weight and hold them in place. With his mum’s help on her sewing machine, the first Active Hands gripping aid was born. From there, the business was born and in 2007 we became a limited company. We’re a small but passionate team who love nothing more than supporting people to achieve greater independence and discover fulfilling and active lives.
We now sell many different products to support reduced hand function. We work with people around the world with a wide range of disabilities and conditions. From spinal cord injuries and cerebral palsy, to stroke survivors, those with MND, limb difference, arthritis, brain injuries and many more.
Our gripping aids support our users in all areas of daily life, including in the gym, the kitchen, bathroom, at work or school and out and about. We work with children, adults and older adults. Those who are returning to gentle exercise, as well as professional athletes competing at the highest level.
