You’ve been asking for a solution for starting zips (or zippers) for a long time! We have found these amazing MagZips from ANKHGEAR.
The MagZip works by connecting magnetically when you put the two sides close to each other.
The MagZips are available in a range of sizes to suit the item of clothing that you want to add them to. They can be cut to size to match your garment. You will need to buy a top stop kit to stop the zip coming off the top!
The Black 36” round and square based zips will be supplied with two top stops due to a change in design. All other zips have a self-stop section at the top, but if you are cutting the zip to size you will need to purchase a top stop kit.
The zips are available in black, white, grey and blue, to suit your favourite cardigan, coat or hoodie.
Zip lengths may vary slightly – length shown is the minimum.

Looking for a full zip solution? Add Zip Grips to your MagZip. These are plastic rings that attach to any zip to give you an easy loop to put your finger through. No grip required to fasten your zips, and they can even go through the washing machine. They are a discreet black colour.

If the slider comes off your zip, separate the two halves and put it back on from the bottom of the zip.

For overseas customers, in the UK we refer to the whole item as a zip and the bit you slide up and down as a slider.
Step by Step Instructions for Installing your MagZip
- Cut your zip to size
- Separate the two sides of the zip
- Choose the plastic tooth where you want the zip to end (leaving at least one tooth in place at the end of the zip)
- Use wire cutters to cut this tooth in half. There is a groove in the end of the tooth to assist with this
- Use long nose pliers to pull the other half of the tooth out
- Clean up any left over plastic with your tool or fingernail
- Place the top stop over the gap in the zip and squeeze tightly with your long nose pliers
- Repeat for the matching tooth on the other side of the zip
