Description

With reduced hand function it is easy to loose grip on an item and send it flying or plummeting to the floor. The Cat Tongue grip tape can help prevent these accidents. You can add grip to any item – try it on drinks bottles, coffee mugs, wheelchair foot plates, cameras and tools. It’s also great for stopping storage boxes moving around the boot (trunk) of your car.

This product does not qualify for VAT exemption. Therefore the total cost of this item for customers within the UK is £19.95. VAT will be added at the checkout. Customers outside the UK will pay the price shown above.

This design of tape is based on a cat’s tongue. It provides grip for a range of items without being sticky. It is high-grip without picking up lint or debris. The tape is also waterproof – it can be used out in the rain and is strong enough to survive the dishwasher. It is still grippy when wet so can be used as grip in the bathtub or in other wet environments.

How to Use

The tape is self-adhesive – to apply make sure your surface is clean, dry and free of lint, peel off the backing and stick down. If you want a different shape for smaller items then the tape can be cut with scissors.

The tape is made of HDPE, which is latex free.  Cat Tongue Grips won’t irritate your skin or your hands when you touch it. Unlike latex (which you’ll find in every rubber grip), it is 100% allergy-free. Both the black and clear tapes are anti-microbial.

The tape allows you to cut strips or shapes to fit your items. The tape is 2 inches wide and 10 foot long.

For use on phones or tablets/laptops see our Cat Tongue Phone/Laptop Grips – they come in a range of funky designs.

They are brilliant. Everyone should use these. I bought the pre cut strips. I was sceptical when I read that it wouldn’t ‘fur up’ in your bag or pocket. I applied a square patch to the back of my mobile phone and haven’t dropped it since. Also the cat can’t knock it off the table now. If I wedge it upright against something it will stay there instead of sliding down but it’s not ‘sticky’. Will save me having to buy a new phone because I’ve dropped it so many times. I have a weak grip and dry hands so everything slips out of my grasp. Will now be applying it to anything and everything that I have problems with.

Great idea from Active Hands to bring to people in need for grip like myself 😃

They’re OK. Pretty expensive and I was expecting a higher level of grip than I got. Still find the product useful though. The adhesive isn’t always as strong or long lasting as I would like, and while the tape itself is waterproof, the adhesive doesn’t seem to be (and when wet it’s not very grippy anyway).

Smaller bits don’t stay stuck as well and it’s not as great on curved surfaces. Some of the example photos show it being used on things like cups and bottles, which is probably fine as a one time use, but based on my experiences, I can’t see it staying stuck when they are washed or that the ends won’t peel off because it’s on a curve.

It does start looking scruffy quite fast. At the edges, the top transparent layer starts to peel away pretty quickly on high-use items like phones. Kinda looks like white, peeling dead skin at the edges, which doesn’t look the best. I haven’t had this long enough to see how much it compromises the grip function as it gets more widespread – for now, it’s just a bit unattractive, but I’m all about function over style.

Some applications I’ve tried and how they have gone:

-covering laptop – this has gone pretty well though several smaller bits have come off and some bigger bits are lifting up. It’s not the most aesthetically-pleasing look but it’s functional. (The special laptop grip pieces are too small for my laptop.) I guess it also protects against scratches etc as a bonus.

-grip on side of bath – total failure, wasn’t grippy when skin was wet, adhesive detached as soon as it got wet. This was on the edge of the bath so wasn’t immersed in water. Lasted about 2 mins.

-adding to phone case: was good while it lasted then all the small strips fell off. I will probably try again with adding extra adhesive. I had the specific phone grip on the back and cut strips of the tape for the sides.

-nail clipper – this was good, no problems. I can use it better now.

    – added to Kindle case, that’s been good. Haven’t dropped it.

    – tried on curved surfaces – doesn’t stick as well and doesn’t flex as much as would help. Example: roll on deodorant container and top. I had to glue and sellotape the edges down because they kept coming unstuck. But now it does make it easier for me to open.

    – electric toothbrush – didn’t really work, the diameter was too small and the adhesive stopped working when it got wet so it came off

-inside arms of glasses – this is helping with the glasses slipping

Hairbrush – gave up. The handle is not cylindrical nor flat and the tape wouldn’t conform at all to the contours of the handle.

Those are all the uses I’ve tried so far. I will definitely keep using this product, especially because it was really expensive, and it has met my needs in several ways. However, some of its limitations should be clearer for consumers before they buy, including the example photos.
