My Work Experience at Active Hands

Sam using Small Item gripping aid to write. Suitable for reduced hand function: tetra, quad, cerebral palsy, SCI, spinal cord injury, stroke and more.

My name is Sam Loveridge, I’m 17 and I’m attending Heart of Worcestershire college. I love sports, the majority of them anyway, especially football as I play weekly for the Solihull Moors Cerebral Palsy team – it is really good and it keeps me fit and active. I also watch my brother play regularly. At HoW, my course requires you to do 30 hours of work experience to complete the course and without any previous work experience when thinking about having to do it, I was fairly nervous. This is where Active Hands came in. I heard about them through…

What an exciting week at Active Hands!

BBC filming in the Active Hands office

Our week started off in a fairly ordinary manner with the normal routine of dispatching your orders, posting on social media and whatever it is that Rob and Mel do as directors! However, we knew we had some excitement on the horizon as I had been contacted by the BBC to see if Active Hands would be interested in doing an interview… Wednesday morning: Active Hands recently won a Board of Trade award recognising our success in exporting to over 50 countries and this seems to have attracted the attention of the local media. Reporter, Joan Cummings, accompanied by camera…

The Great Active Hands Bake Off! (New product)

Nino filming for kitchen pack video!

Getting to grips with cooking can be really challenging with reduced hand function – it can be hard to feel independent when it comes to making meals or enjoying baking.  Earlier in the year, we set Nino, a quad/tetraplegic from Slovenia, the challenge of baking us something delicious, completely independently, using kitchen products from our website.  And we can’t stop watching the result! As Nino shows, with the right tools, the kitchen can become accessible and you can discover a passion for cooking.  All of the products Nino uses are available to buy on our shop page.  To help you get…

Reach for our latest product.

Reacher/ grabber for quadriplegics being used by woman in wheelchair to reach high shelf

Always on the lookout for new, well-designed and high-quality solutions for those with reduced hand function, we were especially excited when we came across our latest product. Reaching and picking up items from the floor, or up high, can be really tricky when you have reduced hand function, and potentially reduced balance or core strength too. How many times have you dropped keys, or coins, or needed to grab an item from the fridge, or a high shelf? It can be a real challenge and we know many people look for a reacher tool to assist them. However, these can…

To Dubai and beyond

Dubai marathon

An EIGHT-hour flight, plus waits and transfers either side sure sounds like a long way… but for Rob and Clare, it sounds like their plans for the week!   After months of tough training, our director Rob is due to compete in the Dubai marathon on Friday. He’s won the race a whopping FOUR times in the past and, despite increased popularity meaning that there are a lot of higher category racers taking part, the Dubai marathon remains a firm favourite since it’s fast, flat and a lovely break from the English winter!   We know that in the aftermath…
